The Story of the Jewish Defense League |
bAdmitting that many Jews are attracted to the JDL be-
bcause they feel that the Establishment “cares more about
bothers than we care for our own,” Lazere stated that the
bJewish leadership “has a real image problem. Somewhere
balong the way Jewish agencies have lost touch with the rank
band file of the Jewish community. In our commitment to a
bfuller and safer America for all . . . Jewish agencies have
bshown a willingness to accommodate and adjust to the needs
bof others. They have shown a willingness to be patient and
bunderstanding about excesses [sic].”
bBut, he admits, something has gone wrong and “we have
bto change our emphasis. The emphasis has to be on Jewish
bconcerns from a Jewish base. . . . Only then will the fears
bdissolve and with it the paranoia of the Jewish Defense
bLeague.”
bWhat clearer proof of the success of JDL! Consider the
bstartling shift in Jewish Establishment thinking. To be sure,
bit is mostly lip service, but some changes were made and are
bbeing made still. And this was done because of the little
bgroup of JDL “aberration” and “paranoia” that they hate
bwith a passion they never felt for anti-Semites. If the Jewish
bEstablishment has begun to become just a bit more Jewish,
bthen let it be known exactly who made them so—despite
bthemselves.
