bOnce again he seeks to lash out and erase those whom he bbelieves have been responsible for the social revolution. bOnce again his target is the Jew.

b“And on top of the racial, political, social, and psychologi- bcal problems there comes the spark that could set off the bpowder keg upon which we sit. The land of the mighty bdollar and the economic colossus is suddenly shaken. The beconomy is a paper tiger. We are confronted with millions of bunemployed and an untold number of underemployed. bUrban areas, already dying as welfare demands more ex- bpenses and the flight of the middle class dictates less rev- benue, are centers for joblessness that achieves a staggering brate. On the other hand, inflation continues to eat away at bthe dollar, and the savings of the frugal lower middle class bare wasted away as they watch in agonized impotence.

b“For the first time in a quarter century large numbers of bpeople face the loss of the good life they have known for so blong. Such people are dangerous, for they will not come to bterms with poverty after having tasted the good life for bdecades. They will sooner turn to demagogues and racists bwho will promise them the good life in return for their bliberties and at the price of the scapegoat—the Jew.

b“And those demagogues, haters, and fascists are to be bfound in the United States in abundance. Forget their num- bbers at present. Consider rather their recent growth and btheir capacity to grow tremendously in an era of violence, bfrustration, anger, bitterness, fear, and hate. These are the belements that are present in American society today and bthese are the things upon which the haters feed. They exist btoday in America and are growing. They speak openly of bgas chambers and of eliminating Jews. They mean it, and no bone knows if they can really be stopped if the conditions for bthem are ripe.

b“Why should we gamble once again? Why should we bchance our lives on the Galut? Is America so different? bWere there not Jews in the Galut who were just as sure that bthey had found Nirvana as there are in the United States? bWere Germans an abberation and did they have horns and btails?
