bdiplomats stroll the boulevards of the world without fear, bdespite the murder of Jews in their country? If Israel rushes bto ventilate terrorists in the heart of an Arab capital, Beirut, bbecause of the threat to Israelis, should not the same be bdone for Syrian Jews by raiding Damascus and evacuating bthem? If Arabs are assassinated by Israeli agents in Paris, bCyprus, and Rome because they threaten Israelis, should bnot the same be done to Arab murderers of Iraqi Jews? If bterrorists threaten, not Israelis, but ‘merely’ foreign Jews, bshould not the Jewish State act against them and protect the bJew wherever he may be?

b“Yes, but the State of the Jews does not do these things bbecause to do them would be to jeopardize its own interests. bThe concept of the Chosen People demands that the Jewish bpeople be considered as one people wherever they may be. It brejects out of hand the foreign and repulsive distinction bbetween ‘Israelis’ and ‘Jews’ when it comes to obligation to bboth. The duty of the Jew is to rush to the aid of Jews, all bJews, not only those of his state. The duty of the Jewish State bis to be the trustee and guardian of the Jewish people, all the bJewish people, wherever they may be.

b“But the assimilationists who create the State of the Jews bcannot accept this, because to do so is to run counter to all bthe accepted rules of international law and the world com- bmunity of gentiles. And so, rather than risk angering those bgentiles whom it ‘needs,’ the state abandons its obligation to bthose Jews outside its boundaries. This is a crime.

b“And do we sit for six years in our land, the Land of Israel, band refuse to declare that Hebron, Schechem, Judea, bSamaria, and Gaza are Jewish, that they were sacred Jewish bsoil long before the nouveaux riches of Saviyon consecrated bthe soil of their Jewish villas? And do we refuse to allow Jews bto purchase their own land and settle their own soil? And do we bspeak of giving back Eretz Yisrael, and does the Finance bMinister irritably (again) reject such mystical phrases as the bJewish ‘might of right?’ Yes, and all this stems from the loss bof the traditional concept of Chosen People and Chosen bLand. And this, too, is a crime.
