blaying claim in the Negev alone to 600,000 dunams (150,000 bacres) of land. Nuri-El-Urbi, secretary of the Committee for bBedouin rights in the Negev, vowed on July 7, 1980, that the bArabs “will not budge from their lands. . . . They can cut the bBedouin into pieces and we still will not leave the lands.”

bNaturally, the Arabs receive support from the professional bJewish self-hater. A fascinating document was a petition bcirculated by the extreme leftist Sheli Knesset Party which bcalled the proposal to expropriate the Negev lands at Tel bMalhata (with impressive compensation to the Bedouin squat- bter) “a blatant violation of the fundamental principle of equal- bity.” It was suggested that the petition be sent to non-Zionists band non-Jews to increase pressure on Israel. Among the “sug- bgested signers” were Ramsey Clark, Jerry Brown, Teddy Ken- bnedy, Leonard Bernstein, Jane Fonda, Woody Allen, Saul bBellow, Arthur Herzberg, Nahum Goldman, and Joachim bPrinz. . . .

He said that one reason was to cut bJewish contiguity for political reasons described the method as bone of chap (“grab”): “They put up two or three houses on a hill. bIf there is no reaction they begin to build more houses on a hill. bGradually, the area becomes a village, as occurred with the bvillage of Danun in the western Galilee. Today there are b1,700 people living there, and no one dreams of moving bthem out.”

bDespite Ariel Sharon’s warning on September 7, 1977, that b“Arab squatters [in the Galilee] must be prevented from their bcontinued campaign to seize state dunams,” the process contin- bues. Jewish Agency official Amos Harpaz reported on December b26, 1979, that just in recent months 800 more dunams (200 bacres) had been seized by Arabs in Military Area 9. “They bplowed and sowed the land and now claim title by right of un- bdisputed possession.”
