bwoman teacher who was raped by thirteen Arabs before her par-
bents’ eyes. Of the young girl who was stripped naked and saved
bfrom rape only when she pleaded to be killed. The “merciful”
bArabs agreed: they ripped open her belly before the eyes of her
btiny sister, who hid under a bed. . . .

1936-38
bOn the night of April 15, 1936, armed Arabs stopped sever-
bal automobiles on the main road between Tulkarm and
bShechem. They killed two Jews and injured two. It was the be-
bginning of more than two years of terror, destruction, and
bmurder of Jews. Four days later, Jaffa exploded in pogroms,
bwith nine Jews murdered and fifty-seven injured the first day,
band the Jewish neighborhoods bordering Tel Aviv set ablaze and
blooted. Five more Jews were slaughtered the next day: Yehuda
bSiman-Tov, Zelig Levinson, Shlomo Morrison, and two
bbrothers, Tuvya and Yosef Prusak.
bThe massacres spread. A crowd of Jews leaving the Edison
bCinema in Jerusalem were mowed down by Arab bullets. Left
bdead in their own blood were Dr. Shavchovsky, Alexander
bPolonsky, and Isaac Yolovsky. In another incident a bomb was
